The Workshop
Introduction (15 minutes)
The scope and goals of the Workshop, and the session plan, will be restated briefly, and questions and concerns will be addressed.
Case discussions (2 hours)
The discussions on syndicate tables will be led by one case author and one discussant per case. Other participants will be invited to join the syndicate that they find most appealing. We will encourage rotation to other syndicates every thirty minutes, approximately, so that participants may contribute to three different syndicate discussions. The number of cases to be covered in the session will be dependent on the number of people who register.
Plenary discussion (30 minutes)
The discussion will focus on the following questions:
-
Why was managing change in the aftermath of the extreme event problematic or successful?
-
What are the implications for the role of change agents, champions, or leaders responsible for implementing change in the extreme event aftermath?
-
How could the learning from this case inform a practical contingency framework for framing and implementing the change agenda in the aftermath of extreme events?
Workshop summary (15 minutes)
The organizers will summarize the outcomes of the discussion in relation to the Workshop goals. We will also explore after-Workshop actions. If this case study project develops as intended, we will also consider taking this into an edited book publication. It should also be possible to publish refereed journal articles from this work. We will also consider how, if we were to repeat this Workshop at AOM 2012
